The Open Book Project: Volunteer Opportunities

Work in the Used Bookstore

Manage inventory by sorting, organizing, and pricing books donated by local community members. Assist customers with finding books, answering questions, and meeting their shopping needs. Distribute monthly flyers around the community.

Manage Book Donation Sites

Check in with local community book donation drop off sites – pick up and deliver to the used bookstore - encourage new partners to join

Recruit New Volunteers

Recruit and encourage new volunteers to participate in community events and literacy initiatives. Engage with student groups to promote volunteer opportunities and community service hours.

Join a Community Engagement Committee

Be part of a planning committee for future events:

  • Nov 2026 – Annual Tee It Up 4 Literacy golf tournament
  • Dec 2026 – Sip & Shop with Santa
  • Feb 2027 – Masquerade Ball
  • Mar 2027 – St Patrick’s Day 5K partnering with The Pint Station
  • Apr 2027 - Annual Book Sale Event

Offer new ideas for community engagement and future fundraising efforts

Host Community Book Drives

Facilitate book donation opportunities throughout the community by hosting book drives within neighborhoods, churches, and/or other groups.
