April 2024 Testimonial from Nikki Miller, Media Specialist: "I have many reluctant readers who head straight for that collection. I had many books that were in poor condition and "well-loved", as I like to call a book that has been worn out. It is so nice to be able to offer our students more copies of this favorite series of books. I am attaching a copy of the data that will show that Jeff Kinney's books have five titles in the Top 10 Books Circulated for the last 4 months. My students were extremely excited when I showed them that I had purchased another set for them! Thank you, once again, for allowing us the money to help keep students interested in coming to the library. Please keep us the awesome work you are doing to enrich literacy in our community!"

Twenty five teachers each come in contact with at least 80-100 students a year, so the benefit to students is widespread. In addition, there is a benefit to teachers as they become informed about trauma and how it has affected their own lives and the lives of their colleagues". Funding provided in April 2023 for the Interactive Decodable Text Sets needed to provide more specific phonics instruction.
Testimonial from 1st grade teacher Sara Mann (Nov 2023): "The funding I received from The Open Book Project for Interactive Decodable Text Sets has truly benefited my students as we work on learning to be strong phonic readers. This year our district has shifted to more of a phonics based reading curriculum and I was concerned about not having decodable books to support this type of teaching, so that lead me to write the grant for these book sets. My students have used these book sets all school year and the books are directly supporting my teaching of various phonics skills. The books help me to see which students have mastered a specific skill and which students need more work in that area.
I'm so very grateful to The Open Book Project for their generous support and willingness to partner with me to help my students have the resources they need to be successful readers."
Funding provided for new books for K4 students that align with the theme of a grant written by K4 teacher, Mrs. Angie Lowery.
